Time of Year

This is usually such a nice time of year. The garden is producing nicely, the children are back on a reasonable schedule and the weather is great. I like the hot days and cool nights. Then the trees start to turn such lovely colors. I will have to think about what projects I want to knit this fall and winter.

Games

I learned a new card game this summer. It is a kind of solitaire called Jailhouse. It is rather addicting. Marva taught it to me and her grandmother taught her.

Seattle

I took 3 teenage boys up to Seattle for the day. What a hoot. We went to the EMP/SFM museum. I had never been there before, it was a lot of fun. The EMP reminded me of the music history museum in Vienna. We did not get to Pike Market though (my favorite place), the boys were not interested. I should have told Thomas that there were lots of girls there, he would have gone in an instant! On the drive home they played a game where they tried to get people to wave to them by waving first. They think they are so cool but they are really just little boys playing :) The summer is drawing to a rapid close and I think I am ready for a change of pace. I have really enjoyed this summer as compared to last year. I was not ready to change to fall because I felt I had no summer.

Hot, hot, hot

Wow, is it ever hot. Where I grew up it got hot like this but the humidity was less and it usually cooled down at night. Not so much here. I do not really mind though. You just make different choices. For the past month, we have hosted a young man (15) from France. We have had a wonderful time showing him around the Northwest. He fit into our family like a recently discovered cousin. I took him to the airport today and I will miss him enormously. As fun as it is to host an overseas student it is ever so hard to say 'good-bye'. So, I won't say 'good-bye' I will say 'a biento' (till later).
